CM Revanth Reddy Orders Purchase of New Buses to Meet Public Demand in Telangana

In response to the rising demand for public transportation and the need to accommodate new routes, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed the purchase of new buses across Telangana. The move aims to bolster the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) fleet, ensuring that public needs are met efficiently.A key factor contributing to this decision is the success of the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which provides free travel for women across the state. Since its inception, the scheme has benefited 83.42 crore women, leading to savings of ₹2,840.71 crores for passengers. Currently, the Mahalakshmi Scheme covers 7,292 buses in the TSRTC fleet, significantly easing the financial burden on women commuters.Despite the scheme’s success, the TSRTC faces a significant financial challenge, with loans totaling ₹6,322 crores, including borrowings from banks and employee provident funds. To address this, CM Revanth Reddy has ordered a comprehensive study to explore ways to reduce the corporation’s high-interest loan burden. The study will focus on restructuring these loans and identifying strategies to gradually reduce TSRTC’s overall debt, ensuring its long-term financial stability. This decision is expected to not only improve public transportation in Telangana but also contribute to the financial health of TSRTC, benefiting both the corporation and the public.
