Narayanpet, July 28, 2025 –
In a stark warning to the public, Narayanpet Superintendent of Police Yogesh Gautam cautioned citizens against falling prey to cyber fraudsters. He stated that “hope and greed have become the most powerful weapons of cybercriminals,” enabling them to trap innocent people in sophisticated online scams.
Luxury Traps and Foreign Tours: The New Bait
Speaking on Sunday, SP Yogesh Gautam explained how cybercriminals are *targeting victims through enticing offers, such as luxury goods at throwaway prices or *low-cost international travel packages. These fraudulent schemes are designed to lure people who seek shortcuts to a better life.
He urged citizens to stay alert and avoid engaging with suspicious links, messages, or calls that promise unbelievable rewards. “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is,” he emphasized.
Report Cybercrime Immediately: SP’s Advice
The SP also highlighted the importance of reporting cyber frauds without delay. Victims who lose money or fall into any trap must immediately file a complaint at their nearest police station. Swift reporting, he said, could help in blocking further transactions and increase the chances of recovery.
He encouraged the public to make use of official cybercrime portals and helplines, such as the national helpline 1930 and the website cybercrime.gov.in, for prompt assistance.
Cyber Awareness: A Community Need
Yogesh Gautam further added that community-level awareness is the most effective defense against cyber scams. He stressed the need for *educational campaigns, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, to *empower citizens with digital safety knowledge.
With cyber frauds on the rise across Telangana, the police department has been actively organizing awareness programs in schools, colleges, and public spaces.
