Delhi Begins Water Sprinkling to Combat Dust Pollution as Stage-II GRAP Action Plan Comes Into Effect

In a bid to reduce dust pollution, Public Works Department (PWD) vehicles have begun sprinkling water in parts of Delhi, including the area around Rail Bhavan. The move comes after the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage-II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region (NCR) starting from 8 AM today, October 22.The Stage-II measures include daily mechanical and vacuum sweeping, along with water sprinkling on identified roads to combat dust, a significant contributor to Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. These actions are part of the larger effort to address rising pollution levels as winter approaches, bringing with it the annual spike in smog and poor air quality. The CAQM’s activation of Stage-II GRAP follows the escalation of air quality concerns in the region, with authorities taking proactive steps to mitigate the impact on public health.
