Government Orders Vigilance Probe into TIMS Cost Escalations

The state government has launched a vigilance and enforcement probe into significant cost overruns associated with the construction of Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals in Warangal and Hyderabad. The investigation was triggered by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s dissatisfaction with the current progress and expenditures during his recent visit to Warangal.The cost of the Warangal TIMS project has soared from an initial estimate of ₹1,100 crore to ₹1,726 crore, marking an unexpected increase of ₹626 crore without the necessary approvals. The Chief Minister has mandated the contractor to complete the 24-storey hospital by March 2025.The vigilance and enforcement department will conduct a forensic audit with the assistance of experts to uncover any financial discrepancies and irregularities. The investigation aims to clarify the reasons behind the substantial cost escalation.In addition to the Warangal facility, three other TIMS hospitals are being constructed in Hyderabad at LB Nagar, Alwal, and Sanathnagar, with a total combined cost of ₹2,679 crore.
