Due to continuous heavy rains in the upstream states of Maharashtra and *Karnataka, both the *Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers are now witnessing substantial inflows, causing concern across Jogulamba Gadwal district.
According to *District SP T. Srinivas Rao, IPS, *10 gates of the Jurala project have been opened, releasing *1,30,000 cusecs of water, while *1,20,000 cusecs are flowing from the Tungabhadra river toward the Srisailam reservoir.
Public Advisory from District SP:
The Gadwal district police have issued an urgent alert for residents of riverside villages. The SP has called on people to:
- Avoid entering rivers or riverbanks, especially fishermen, cattle grazers, and farmers.
- Stay away from low-lying areas, especially during this high inflow period.
- Cooperate with police and local administration and follow safety instructions.
- Awareness announcements are being made in villages using loudspeakers (Tom-Tom).
Police Department on High Alert
The police force has been deployed in vulnerable areas along the Krishna and Tungabhadra riverbanks. SP Srinivas Rao confirmed that local police officials have been instructed to remain on standby and take all necessary measures to ensure public safety.
Efforts are also being made to monitor water levels and initiate timely evacuations if required. SP Rao emphasized that prevention and preparedness are key to avoiding any casualties or damages.
Villagers Urged to Move to Safer Locations
In case of severe flooding, residents of low-lying areas are advised to *shift temporarily to higher and safer locations. Coordination between *revenue, disaster response, and police departments is being strengthened to deal with any emergencies efficiently.
