Hyderabad, August 3: In response to the growing concern over dog attacks on vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly, the High Court has issued a directive to the state government, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and local authorities to capture and relocate stray dogs to rehabilitation centers.The court’s order emphasizes the need to implement the Animal Birth Control (ABC) rules, which aim to reduce the stray dog population. The rehabilitation centers are to be established outside the city limits.To address public concerns, the local authorities have been instructed to set up a dedicated helpline for receiving complaints about stray dog nuisance.The High Court bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Srinivasa Rao, heard the petition and directed the implementation of ABC rules 10, 11, 15, and 16. The authorities have been asked to submit a report on the implementation progress.During the hearing, Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy informed the court that the Animal Birth Control Implementation and Monitoring Committee has been established, as per the High Court’s orders, through GEO 315.This move aims to address the growing concern over stray dog attacks and ensure public safety while also adhering to animal welfare guidelines.
