Hyderabad, August 2, 2025 –
In a major step towards inclusive policing, Telangana Police has inducted 10 women constables into its Mounted Police Unit (City Division) for the first time in its history.
This is a landmark move aimed at promoting gender diversity in specialized police units that were previously male-dominated.
Women on Horseback Take Up City Patrol Duties
The newly trained women constables are now part of the mounted patrol teams deployed in sensitive and high-footfall areas like *Necklace Road, **Assembly, and *Charminar. These teams play a crucial role in managing crowds, especially during festivals and processions.
Mounted units are typically used for *crowd control, **area surveillance, and *ceremonial duties. With women now actively participating, the Telangana Police hopes to set a new example in urban policing.
Scheduled Patrols Across the City
Each woman constable will be on *alternate-day patrol duty, ensuring consistent coverage and effective law enforcement. Notably, the mounted patrol will be *stationed in Hyderabad’s Old City every Friday, a day when the area often sees larger gatherings.
These officers have undergone special training in *equestrian skills, **crowd management, and *urban public interaction.
A Message of Empowerment
The induction of women into the Mounted Police Wing sends a strong message about gender equality in uniformed services. It also encourages more women to consider roles in specialized and frontline police units.
