Darjeeling, September 11, 2025 –
Hundreds of truck operators have been left stranded at the West Bengal–Nepal border in Panitanki, Darjeeling district, as disruptions in immigration and customs services in Nepal continue. The situation has caused mounting financial losses for transporters carrying perishable goods.
Trucks Stuck, Perishable Goods at Risk
Speaking to reporters, a truck driver stuck at the border said:
“I have been here for the last three days. The load of poultry food and potatoes I am carrying is getting damaged. We are facing huge losses.”
Many trucks loaded with food items, agricultural produce, and essential supplies are waiting for clearance, with drivers expressing frustration over the uncertainty of when they will be allowed to move into Nepal.
Police Assurance on Border Clearance
Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Praveen Prakash stated that the trucks will be allowed to cross once services in Nepal are fully restored.
“Once all the services, including immigration and customs services, are restored in Nepal, then they (stranded trucks) can go there,” he assured.
Wider Impact on Trade and Economy
The delay has created a ripple effect on *India–Nepal trade routes, particularly affecting the supply chain of perishable goods.
