Hyderabad Fake Currency Racket Busted: ₹2.91 Lakh in Counterfeit Notes Seized, 3 Arrested
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, Shamshabad Zone, along with Balapur Police, has busted an alleged counterfeit currency racket and arrested three persons.
Police seized fake Indian currency notes with a face value of ₹2,91,100 during the operation. Printing equipment and other materials allegedly linked to the racket were also recovered.
The accused were allegedly involved in printing and circulating counterfeit notes in parts of Hyderabad. Police said another person connected to the case is currently absconding.
Three Arrested in Hyderabad Fake Currency Case
The arrested persons have been identified as Ramavath Ramu alias Mohammed, 36, Ramavath Mothilal, 35, and Ramavath Gandhi, 19.
Ramu reportedly works as a Zomato delivery worker. Mothilal is a Rapido driver, while Gandhi works as an auto driver.
All three are residents of Chinthal Thanda in Vaddipatla, Telangana, according to police.
The alleged associate who remains untraced has been identified as Sudheer John Chela alias Vamshi, a resident of Nagole-Bandlaguda.
Police Seize ₹2.91 Lakh in Fake Notes
The counterfeit currency recovered during the operation included different denominations.
Police said they seized:
- 437 fake ₹500 notes
- 648 fake ₹100 notes
- 39 fake ₹200 notes
The total face value of the seized counterfeit currency was ₹2,91,100. Police also recovered genuine ₹500 and ₹100 notes that were allegedly used as reference material.
The operation also led to the seizure of printing and related equipment, along with smartphones and a motorcycle.
Police Say Accused Learnt About Counterfeit Currency Online
According to investigators, Ramu and Mothilal allegedly came across online content related to counterfeit currency.
Police said the two allegedly used social media videos to learn about the illegal activity. They later obtained printing equipment and allegedly began producing counterfeit notes.
Authorities said the accused allegedly attempted to make the fake currency resemble genuine Indian notes.
Police also recovered materials that they suspect were connected to the preparation of the counterfeit currency.
Fake Notes Allegedly Circulated at Markets
Investigators said the accused allegedly introduced the counterfeit notes into circulation in small quantities.
Police suspect that wine shops and vegetable markets were among the locations targeted. The alleged circulation mainly took place during night hours.
The 19-year-old accused, Gandhi, was also allegedly used to circulate some of the fake notes, police said.
Authorities are now investigating how widely the counterfeit currency may have been circulated.
Printing Equipment and Other Items Seized
Police said the seized property included an Epson L6460 colour printer, Epson colour scanner and Zebronics laminator.
A paper cutter, bond paper, watermark-related material, coloured liquids and other items were also recovered.
Three smartphones and a motorcycle bearing registration number TG 07 BE 9434 were seized during the operation.
Police also recovered genuine currency notes that were allegedly being used as samples.
Absconding Accused Under Police Scanner
Police said Sudheer John Chela alias Vamshi is currently absconding.
Investigators are continuing efforts to trace him. They are also examining whether additional people were involved in the alleged counterfeit currency network.
The investigation is expected to focus on the source of the materials and the alleged circulation of the fake notes.
Police Action Follows Credible Information
The Shamshabad Zone Task Force team and Balapur Police acted on credible information before apprehending the three accused.
The operation was carried out by the Task Force team in coordination with Balapur Police.
The arrested persons and seized property were subsequently handed over to Balapur Police Station for further investigation.
Previous Case Against One Accused
Police also said Ramu had previously been booked in a case at Nalgonda Women Police Station.
The earlier case was registered under Section 498A of the IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, according to police.
The previous case is separate from the latest counterfeit currency investigation.
Investigation Continues
The latest Hyderabad fake currency case has raised concerns about the circulation of counterfeit notes through everyday cash transactions.
Police are now working to determine the full extent of the alleged racket. Investigators are also attempting to identify any additional suspects.
