Hyderabad, July 29 — Former Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar has been named in a major Goods and Services Tax (GST) scandal involving a staggering Rs.1000 crore. The Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) has registered a case against Kumar and two other high-ranking officials from the state’s Commercial Taxes Department.According to the complaint filed by K. Ravi, Commissioner of the Commercial Taxes Department, the case involves massive irregularities in the Input Goods and Services Tax (IGST) payments affecting 70 companies. The department is accused of illegally transferring input credit worth Rs.1000 crore under IGST provisions.The FIR details include charges under Sections 406, 409, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 65 of the Information Technology Act. The implicated officials include Commercial Taxes Department Additional Commissioner SV Kashi Visveswara Rao, Deputy Commissioner A. Shivarama Prasad, and Assistant Professor Shobhan Babu. Plinto Technologies, responsible for the GST software, is also named in the FIR.The investigation reveals that Punjab-based businessman exploited the system to claim input tax credits from GST Council accounts based on fraudulent invoices. These credits were then distributed among dealers in Punjab and Telangana. This coordinated scheme allowed dealers across various states to siphon off significant amounts from the government’s treasury, totaling Rs.1000 crore.The Hyderabad CCS police have commenced their investigation into the matter, aiming to unravel the full extent of the scam and bring the responsible parties to justice.
