Hyderabad, Aug 22, 2025:
The Telangana High Court has directed authorities to remove all unauthorized and unlicensed cables across Hyderabad. The order came during the hearing of a petition filed by Airtel, which challenged the ongoing cable removal drive in the city.
Justice Nagesh Bhimapaka’s Key Directions
Justice *Nagesh Bhimapaka, while issuing crucial instructions, made it clear that **only cables with valid licenses should be allowed to remain in place. The court strongly condemned the practice of randomly installing cables without authorization, stating that such actions are nothing short of *“playing with people’s lives.”
Background of the Case
The issue gained momentum after Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka recently ordered the disconnection of unlicensed cable and internet wires in Hyderabad. Following this, several service providers, including Airtel, approached the court citing disruptions to essential services.
Why the Crackdown?
Authorities have been receiving frequent complaints from residents regarding tangled, hanging, and dangerously placed wires across main roads and residential areas. These unregulated cables not only pose a safety hazard to pedestrians and motorists but also affect the city’s aesthetic and infrastructure management.
The High Court’s directive now puts pressure on telecom operators and internet service providers to regularize their cable networks by obtaining proper approvals.
What Happens Next
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), along with concerned departments, is expected to launch a stricter inspection and ensure that all unauthorized cables are removed at the earliest. Service providers will be required to submit documents proving their licenses to avoid disconnection.
With the court’s intervention, residents may soon see a significant reduction in hanging wires and unsafe cabling practices across Hyderabad.
