Indian Nationals Stranded in Nepal Brought Back via Sonauli Border in Uttar Pradesh

Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, September 10, 2025 –

Indian nationals stranded in Nepal amid ongoing unrest and airport closures are being safely moved back to India through the Sonauli border in Maharajganj district with the assistance of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Authorities said the repatriation efforts were carried out in close coordination with security forces and local administration to ensure the safety of citizens returning from Nepal.

Controlled Entry for Nepali Citizens

Officials confirmed that Nepali nationals are being allowed to cross into India only under emergency circumstances, such as medical needs or urgent family matters. Each case is being carefully verified and processed before granting entry to ensure security at the border.

Indian Government’s Advisory

The Indian government had earlier issued an advisory urging its citizens in Nepal to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary movement, and stay in touch with the Indian embassy for assistance. With regular flights suspended, the land route through Sonauli has become a critical passage for evacuation.

Security and Humanitarian Coordination

SSB officials stated that strict checks are being conducted to maintain order while prioritizing humanitarian needs. “Our teams are working around the clock to provide assistance to Indian nationals and respond to emergencies involving Nepali citizens,” an officer said.
