Bengaluru, August 5, 2025 –
Tension gripped major cities across Karnataka today as transport workers from all four state-run corporations—*KSRTC, **BMTC, **NWKRTC, and **KKRTC—launched a *statewide strike to press for long-pending demands. With buses off the roads, both intercity and city-bound travelers found themselves stranded and helpless.
Security Tightened Across Transport Hubs
In light of the strike, the Karnataka government has deployed additional security personnel at major bus depots and terminals to avoid untoward incidents. Officials say the strike may intensify if talks between unions and authorities fail again.
Commuters in *Bengaluru, **Mysuru, **Davangere, and *Hubballi reported major disruptions. Bus terminals were filled with confused passengers, many of whom had reserved their tickets weeks ago.
Passengers Frustrated with No Information or Help
Speaking to our reporter at Majestic Bus Station in Bengaluru, a visibly frustrated passenger said:
“We already have our reservations, but no one is giving us any clear information. No official is responding. I don’t even know if our bus has been canceled. I have to travel urgently, and now even flights and trains are fully booked. It’s a complete mess.”
Another commuter added,
“We’ve been waiting for over an hour. Still, there’s no clarity about whether the bus will come. There is no backup plan or communication for passengers who booked in advance. The officials seem equally clueless.”
Private Buses Deployed, But Not Enough
To manage the situation, private operators have been allowed to run services on some key state transport routes. But they are bound by strict rules.
Samir Pasha, a private bus driver, explained the arrangement:
“We’ve received temporary permission to operate on state bus routes. The government has fixed the fares. We are not allowed to overcharge. Two more buses are being arranged for the Hassan route.”
Despite this, most private buses are running at full capacity, leaving many commuters with no alternative.
Demands of the RTC Workers
The transport employees are demanding:
- Restoration of the old pension scheme
- Timely salary disbursement
- Regularization of contract staff
- Improved job security and work conditions
Unions argue that repeated assurances from the government have not materialized into action.
What Lies Ahead?
The state government has appealed to union leaders to call off the strike and resume dialogue. However, with no signs of compromise so far, commuters may continue to face disruptions in the coming days.
Travelers are advised to check official websites and updates before planning any trips.
