Krishnamma’s Mighty Flow Begins: Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar Projects Release Heavy Floodwaters Towards the Sea

Hyderabad | July 9, 2025:

The sacred Krishna River, fondly called *Krishnamma, is on a powerful run from the *Srisailam Reservoir toward the sea. Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas, authorities have lifted the gates of the Srisailam Dam, allowing large volumes of water to surge downstream.

Water Levels Surge at Srisailam Project

The *Srisailam project, one of the major reservoirs on the Krishna River, has witnessed a sharp rise in inflows. As a result, *four crest gates have been opened to a height of 10 feet, releasing 1.06 lakh cusecs of water into the river system.

With increased inflows from upstream sources such as Jooraal and *Sunkesula, the project is receiving *1,85,781 cusecs of water. These figures reflect the seriousness of the current flood flow and the need for timely water management to avoid downstream flooding.

Water Storage and Sea-Level Details at Nagarjuna Sagar

Meanwhile, the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir is also witnessing an active flood situation. Although the full reservoir level is *590 feet, the current water level stands at *531.40 feet.

The *water storage, which has a total capacity of **312 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic Feet), currently holds about *171 TMC. The rising inflows from Srisailam and other feeder canals are likely to improve storage in the coming days.

Key Highlights:
