Mallareddy University in Maisammaguda, Medchal District, was the scene of intense student agitation on Saturday following the tragic death of a student, A. Arunkumar. The student collapsed in a classroom three days prior and died before reaching the hospital. The university’s agriculture students led a protest, accusing the university staff of negligence in delaying medical assistance. According to the students, Arunkumar’s condition was ignored for 40 minutes before an ambulance was called. They claimed that prompt action could have saved his life. The students staged a sit-in in front of the university building, which escalated when they vandalized mirrors and equipment in frustration over the lack of response from university officials.Police intervened after being alerted by the university management. The students expressed their anger that their attempts to transport Arunkumar in a private vehicle were blocked, and they demanded the installation of a permanent ambulance and a primary health center on campus.University Vice-Chancellor VSK Reddy addressed the students, expressing sorrow over the incident. He assured them that a thorough inquiry would be conducted and promised strict action if staff negligence was found. Additionally, he committed to establishing a permanent ambulance service and a primary health center to prevent future incidents. The protest subsided as students received assurances regarding these measures.
