Fishermen from Poodimadaka coast in Anakapalli district were in for a surprise on Saturday when their nets caught a giant shark weighing nearly half a ton.
According to local fisherman *Maddu Nukaraju, the catch measured an impressive *15 feet in length and weighed around *500 kilograms. Initially, the fishermen were startled by the massive creature. It reportedly took them *five hours of struggle to pull it ashore.
The team first brought the shark closer to the shore, using spears to subdue it. As it was too heavy to lift into the boat, they tied it with ropes and dragged it back. Once on land, the shark was auctioned, with a trader purchasing it for ₹34,000.
Such large shark catches are *rare in the region, and the incident drew crowds of curious locals to the beach. Experts say sharks of this size are usually found in *deep waters, making this an unusual and notable catch for the local fishing community.
