Hyderabad, July 8:
Political heat is rising in Telangana as Civil Supplies Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has thrown a direct challenge to BRS leaders KCR and KTR, urging them to participate in a full-fledged debate on public issues within the Assembly.
Speaking from Gandhi Bhavan, Minister Ponnam questioned the absence of BRS’s top leadership during crucial discussions. He said that the people’s representatives must answer the public, and debates should happen openly in the Assembly, not behind closed doors.
“We are ready to face any question. Let BRS send representatives if KCR and KTR are not willing to attend. But the discussion should be within the Assembly and on record,” said Ponnam.
He also emphasized that KTR should formally write a letter to the Speaker and assume the role of Opposition Leader if he truly wants to engage in political dialogue.
Assembly Should Be the Platform for Transparency
The Minister stated that the Congress government is not running away from debate and that issues related to governance, development, and policies are better addressed within the legislature, where proceedings are recorded and accessible to the public.
“We initiated this in the Assembly. If KTR or KCR wish to counter it, let them join us there. That’s where it counts,” Ponnam remarked.
He reiterated that opposition voices are important, but they must follow due process, especially in a democracy where transparency and accountability are critical.
Targeting BRS: ‘Come to the House, Not the Media’
In a sharp swipe at the opposition, Ponnam said that it’s easy to hold press conferences, but real leadership is tested in the Assembly. He questioned why KTR, who was alerted first in Sirisilla, has not stepped forward to lead the discussion.
“We want a healthy debate, not one-sided shouting matches in the media. Let them come and speak on record,” he added.
The Minister’s comments come amid growing tension between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS, particularly over developmental issues, pending projects, and administrative accountability.
Key Demands from Ponnam Prabhakar:
- KCR and KTR must attend the Assembly to discuss pressing state issues.
- KTR should formally assume the Opposition Leader’s post by writing to the Speaker.
- BRS must stop political drama and face real questions in the legislature.
