Owaisi Says AIMIM Support Is for Revanth Reddy, Not Any Party
Hyderabad, Telangana: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has clarified his position on the party’s political support for Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Speaking at a public meeting in Hyderabad, Owaisi said AIMIM’s support was being extended in Revanth Reddy’s name, rather than in the name of any political party.
“I have no hesitation in saying that if we are supporting something, we are doing it in the name of Revanth Reddy and not in the name of any party,” Owaisi said.
The AIMIM president also referred to the party’s earlier political position towards the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Owaisi recalled that AIMIM had supported the BRS in the past. He also said he had repeatedly warned against what he described as the growing political focus on Revanth Reddy.
“I was constantly saying, ‘Stop the craze for this man (Revanth Reddy), otherwise you will have to sit at home,’” he said.
Owaisi Draws Line Between Leader and Party
Owaisi’s remarks underline a distinction between supporting a particular leader and backing an entire political organisation.
His comments come against the backdrop of changing political equations in Telangana. AIMIM has maintained an independent political identity while engaging with different parties and leaders on specific issues.
Revanth Reddy became Telangana Chief Minister after the Congress defeated the BRS in the 2023 Assembly elections. The political landscape has since remained closely contested among Congress, BRS, BJP and AIMIM.
Earlier, Revanth Reddy had also criticised AIMIM’s political alignment with the BRS during the 2023 election campaign.
Owaisi’s latest statement therefore highlights the shifting nature of political alliances and issue-based support in Telangana.
