PM Modi Embarks on Historic Five-Nation Diplomatic Tour; To Attend BRICS Summit in Brazil

The highlight of the tour is PM Modi’s participation in the BRICS Summit scheduled for *July 6–7 in Rio de Janeiro. This year’s summit is hosted by *Brazil under the theme:

“Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.”

During the summit, two major declarations are expected—one focused on climate change financing and the other on the governance of artificial intelligence.

“My visit to Brazil includes participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio and a bilateral visit to Brasília—the first by an Indian PM in almost six decades. I look forward to meeting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to explore new avenues for India-Brazil cooperation.”

The *BRICS bloc, originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has seen significant expansion:

Apart from BRICS, PM Modi is scheduled to hold extensive bilateral discussions with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília. The talks will cover trade, energy cooperation, defense ties, and technology transfer.

This marks the first state-level visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brazil in nearly 60 years, signaling a deeper strategic alignment between the two democracies.

The diplomatic itinerary also includes official visits to *Ghana, Namibia, Argentina, and *Trinidad and Tobago, where PM Modi will engage with heads of state and business leaders.
