Vikarabad, July 13:
Students at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Marpalli, Vikarabad district, staged a protest along with their parents, raising serious concerns about the quality and hygiene of the food being served to them.
According to students, worms were found in the meals, prompting widespread fear and disgust. Many girls claimed they could not eat the food due to its poor quality. Despite a fixed menu being in place, the meals served were reportedly different and substandard.
Parents who visited the school on morning were shocked to hear complaints directly from their children. The girls told them that not only was the food unappetizing, but even eggs and fruits meant for them were being taken away by the staff, leaving them with very little nutrition.
Parents Join Protest Inside School Premises
The issue quickly escalated when parents joined their children in a peaceful protest inside the school campus. They demanded accountability from the administration and called for immediate action to ensure food safety and proper implementation of the school meal plan.
“This is a residential school for young girls. If the food is not hygienic and nutritious, how can our children stay healthy?” questioned one of the protesting parents.
The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya program, designed to uplift girls from marginalized communities by providing free education and residential facilities, is now under scrutiny in the region. Parents argue that such negligence undermines the very purpose of the initiative.
Students Raise Voice Against Mismanagement
Students also voiced concerns that their health is being compromised and that their grievances are often ignored by the staff. They allege that the school management is not maintaining the kitchen properly and that their repeated complaints have fallen on deaf ears.
Local officials are yet to issue a formal response, but sources suggest a probe might be initiated to verify the allegations and take corrective action.
