Subject Failure Pushes Mancherial Polytechnic Student to Suicide in Hanamkonda

Hanamkonda, July 19, 2025 –

In a heartbreaking incident that has raised concerns over student mental health and academic pressure, a 20-year-old polytechnic student took his own life after failing in one subject.

The deceased, identified as Akshay, was a third-year diploma student in the mining department at a polytechnic college in Mancherial, Telangana. According to police reports, he had returned to his home in Revenue Colony, Hanamkonda, after completing his examinations two months ago.

When the diploma exam results were released recently, Akshay was reportedly devastated to learn that he had failed in one subject. Family members mentioned that since the results came out, he had been visibly distressed and emotionally withdrawn.

On Saturday, Sub-Inspector Venkata Phani confirmed that Akshay ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room. A case has been registered, and the body was sent for postmortem examination.

Mental Health and Academic Pressure: A Growing Concern

This tragic incident is yet another reminder of the mounting pressure students face during their academic journey. Failing in a single subject can become overwhelming when support systems are weak or societal expectations are too high.

Mental health professionals emphasize the need for open communication between students, parents, and educators. Awareness campaigns in educational institutions can help students manage failure and stress more effectively.
