Telangana BJP Chief N Ramchander Rao Detained During Fee Reimbursement Protest

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao was detained outside the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday, September 7, during a protest over pending student fee reimbursement dues.

Rao and other BJP leaders had gathered near the Assembly after the party called for a ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest. The BJP had earlier alleged that police denied permission for its planned demonstration at Dharna Chowk.

The protest focused on the release of pending fee reimbursement and scholarship amounts. The BJP has claimed that around Rs 15,000 crore in dues are pending across Telangana.

The party says the delay is affecting lakhs of students. It has also alleged that some students are facing difficulties in obtaining certificates from educational institutions because of unpaid dues.

As police moved to detain Rao, BJP leaders raised slogans against the Telangana government. Videos shared on social media showed the BJP state president being taken into a police vehicle.

Party workers and supporters were seen trying to resist the police action. The detention added to the political tension around the opening day of the Assembly session.

BJP leaders also raised slogans including "CM Down Down" and "Idhemi Rajyam? Idhemi Rajyam? Dongala Rajyam, Dopidi Rajyam!" during the protest.

The BJP has stepped up its agitation over fee reimbursement in recent weeks. On September 3, Rao and other party leaders were also detained while attempting to submit representations seeking clearance of pending dues.

The party has accused the Congress-led Telangana government of failing to address the financial difficulties faced by students. The government is yet to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of the protesting BJP leaders.

The fee reimbursement issue is expected to remain a major political flashpoint during the ongoing Telangana Assembly session.
