In a major push towards digital healthcare, over 2.5 crore people in Telangana have registered for Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) digital health cards. The initiative, part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), aims to create a seamless and secure digital health ecosystem across India.
Rapid Surge in Digital Health Card Adoption
The Telangana government is actively speeding up the rollout of ABHA cards across the state. As of July 2025:
- 2.5 crore digital health cards have been issued
- 68 lakh citizens have linked their past health records to their ABHA accounts
- In *July alone, over *2.36 lakh new digital records were integrated
Hyderabad district leads with 36 lakh ABHA accounts, making it the top-performing region in Telangana.
What Is ABHA and How Does It Help?
The ABHA card is a 14-digit unique health ID that digitally stores a person’s complete medical history. This includes doctor visits, lab reports, prescriptions, and previous treatments.
Patients can create their ABHA ID using:
- Aadhaar number
- Driving license
- Or by visiting the official ABDM website: https://abdm.gov.in
Once created, the card links all health data in one place. This helps doctors instantly access medical history and provide better treatment—especially in emergency cases.
Why Is It Becoming Mandatory?
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and affiliated hospitals to make ABHA ID mandatory for OPD, IPD, and emergency patients.
