Hyderabad, July 3:
The Telangana High Court has issued notices to Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and Municipal Administration Principal Secretary T.K. Sridevi in connection with a contempt of court petition filed for failing to act on the court’s previous orders regarding the Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa scheme.
This legal action comes after a resident of Narayanpet filed a *Public Interest Litigation (PIL), urging the government to extend the Atmiya Bharosa benefits to *landless poor families residing in urban municipalities across Telangana.
Court Order Allegedly Ignored
Earlier this year, on *January 27, the High Court concluded its hearing and directed the state government to take an *immediate decision on the matter. The petitioner was also instructed to submit a representation to the relevant departments to expedite the process.
Despite the clear directive, the petitioner claims the government *did not take any action. As a result, he filed a **contempt petition, accusing state officials of *disregarding a judicial order, which prompted the court to initiate fresh proceedings.
High Court Steps In Again
In response, the court has now formally served notices to the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration, asking for an explanation. The matter has been adjourned to July 29, allowing the state officials time to respond.
This development underscores the judiciary’s increasing concern over *non-compliance by state officials, especially in matters related to *welfare schemes for the urban poor.
