“The goal is to balance institutional sustainability with students’ financial capacity,” a senior official said.
“We aim to adopt best practices from across the country.”
The committee will also consider student welfare, quality of education, and economic background of families while drafting its recommendations.
Background: Why Fee Revision is Important
Over the years, several student unions and parents’ associations have raised concerns about the lack of regulation in fee structures, especially in private institutions. Many colleges reportedly charge fees that are not in sync with the facilities or faculty standards provided.
By introducing a standardized fee model, the government hopes to:
- Curb commercialization of education,
- Promote equity in admissions, and
- Improve transparency and accountability among institutions.
