Hyderabad/New Delhi: Telangana Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has urged the Centre to sanction 11,56,915 houses to Telangana in a single tranche under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0.
Minister Ponguleti met Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi on Wednesday and submitted a representation seeking early allocation of houses to the State.
The Minister said a transparent door-to-door survey conducted through the Awaas Plus–2024 application identified more than 11.56 lakh eligible rural poor families. He pointed out that the verification process and removal of ineligible beneficiaries had been completed nearly a year ago, but the final allocation was still awaited.
Ponguleti said Telangana has a substantial housing backlog as construction of houses for the poor had remained stalled for several years. He therefore requested the Centre to sanction the entire eligible quota in one go.
The Minister also highlighted Telangana Government’s decision to provide ₹5 lakh financial assistance to each eligible poor family for house construction, over and above Central assistance and the regular State share under PMAY-G. He said funds had already been provided in the State Budget.
Ponguleti invited Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to visit Telangana and personally announce the PMAY-G 2.0 housing allocation. Responding positively, Chouhan agreed to visit the State.
The meeting was attended by MPs Mallu Ravi, Vem Narender Reddy, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Suresh Shetkar, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy and Anil Kumar Yadav, along with Telangana Housing Corporation Managing Director V.P. Gautham and others.
