Khammam, August 15, 2026: Telangana is moving ahead with an ambitious goal of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance, Energy and Planning Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said.
Addressing the Independence Day celebrations at the Police Parade Ground in Khammam on Saturday, Bhatti Vikramarka unfurled the national flag and reviewed the parade before highlighting the government’s welfare and development initiatives across Khammam district.
Major Support for Farmers
The Deputy CM said farmer welfare remains a top priority of the government. Under Rythu Bharosa, 3,41,913 farmers in the district received ₹427.97 crore, while ₹912.10 crore was deposited into the accounts of 1,31,760 farmers under the crop loan waiver scheme.
Through Rythu Bima, 803 farmer families received ₹40.15 crore. The government also procured nearly 2.84 lakh metric tonnes of maize worth ₹681.49 crore from 44,568 farmers at minimum support prices.
Focus on Education and Healthcare
Khammam district has emerged as a leading district in foundational literacy and numeracy, Bhatti said. Around 66,882 students were enrolled in government schools through the Badi Bata programme.
Five Young India Integrated Schools, each costing ₹200 crore, are being developed in Khammam, Palair, Madhira, Wyra and Sathupalli constituencies.
In healthcare, a 50-bed Critical Care building has been completed at Khammam Government General Hospital at a cost of ₹23.75 crore. New 100-bed hospitals are also under development in Wyra and Kusumanchi, while the Thirumalayapalem Community Health Centre is being upgraded into a 100-bed hospital.
Irrigation and Flood ProtectionThe Seetharama Lift Irrigation Scheme, through the Palair Link Canal, is expected to provide irrigation to 1,38,790 acres of new ayacut.

Under the Mahalakshmi scheme, 2,45,213 beneficiaries in Khammam district received 18,69,122 LPG cylinders at a subsidised price of ₹500, with the government bearing ₹57.05 crore in subsidy.
Women have made more than 6.14 crore free journeys on TSRTC buses, resulting in savings of ₹326.73 crore, which has been reimbursed to the transport corporation by the government.
Under Gruha Jyothi, 2,49,454 households consuming up to 200 units of electricity are receiving free power, with ₹257.22 crore provided as subsidy.
Indiramma HousingUnder the first phase of the Indiramma Indlu scheme, 16,243 houses were sanctioned in Khammam district, of which 10,396 have been completed. Financial assistance of ₹454.97 crore has been provided to beneficiaries.
A further 10,400 houses are planned in the second phase, including 7,800 new houses and 2,600 roof-replacement houses.
Infrastructure and IndustrySeveral major road and infrastructure projects are progressing across the district. The four-lane Kodad–Khammam NH-365A project, costing ₹1,583 crore, has been completed, while other major national highway projects are also nearing completion.
Tourism and Urban DevelopmentTourism infrastructure is being strengthened with proposals including a ₹15-crore ropeway and tourism facilities at Khammam Fort, along with development projects at Palair Lake, Nelakondapalli Buddhist Stupa, Madhira Pedda Cheruvu and other water bodies.
Urban development projects are also underway in Khammam, Madhira, Wyra, Kalluru and Sathupalli municipalities, covering drinking water, drainage, roads, sewerage and flood-management infrastructure.
Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka felicitated freedom fighters and presented commendation certificates to officials and employees for their distinguished services.
