Hyderabad: Citizens across Hyderabad celebrated the second anniversary of HYDRA on Saturday, praising its efforts to protect public lands, restore lakes, and preserve parks and green spaces
Residents from several colonies organised celebrations, stating that HYDRA’s initiatives had revitalised their neighbourhoods by safeguarding parks and public utility lands. Others appreciated the restoration of lakes, saying the projects had improved the environment and enhanced public spaces.
People also commended HYDRA for preventing encroachments on government lands, hills, and green zones. Fireworks were set off at government lands protected by HYDRA’s fencing as part of the celebrations.
A large rally was held from NTR Garden to Lumbini Park along Necklace Road, with participants from different parts of the city raising slogans in support of the Telangana government. Supporters also performed a milk abhishekam to a portrait of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, crediting him with establishing HYDRA to secure Hyderabad’s future.
Participants described HYDRA as a model initiative for the country and urged the state government to expand its operations to all districts to protect lakes, parks, government lands, and other public spaces.
According to speakers at the event, HYDRA has protected 3,315 acres of land over the past two years. While the estimated market value of these lands is around ₹1.5 lakh crore, they said the environmental benefits—including preservation of parks, groundwater recharge, and flood mitigation through lake restoration—are invaluable.
Representatives later submitted memorandums to officials from various government departments at the Secretariat, seeking the expansion of HYDRA’s initiatives across Telangana.
