Telangana Reviews El Niño Preparedness Amid Rainfall Deficit

Hyderabad, July 18: Telangana Chief Secretary Shri Sanjay Jaju on Saturday reviewed preparations for district-level awareness meetings on the anticipated impact of El Niño and the prevailing rainfall deficit across the State during a video conference with District Collectors and Special Officers.

The review focused on implementing the State Cabinet’s decision to hold district-level meetings across the ten erstwhile districts, where Ministers-in-Charge will interact with farmers, assess the ground situation, and recommend measures to reduce the impact of deficient rainfall.

The Chief Secretary directed all Special Officers to attend the awareness meetings scheduled for July 20, stressing that the programme aims to educate farmers and other stakeholders about the possible effects of El Niño on agriculture during the current season.

Noting that most districts are already facing a significant rainfall deficit, Shri Sanjay Jaju urged officials to promote crop diversification and other contingency measures to help farmers minimize risks and protect their livelihoods.

He said the day-long programme will provide scientific guidance on climate conditions, crop planning, and agricultural practices while allowing farmers to interact directly with experts and government officials to address their concerns.

District Collectors, along with senior officials from the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Irrigation and other departments, have been instructed to ensure smooth conduct of the meetings and maximum participation from farmers, public representatives, scientists, agricultural experts, extension officers, media and other stakeholders

The video conference was attended by Special Chief Secretaries Vikas Raj, Dana Kishore, Navin Mittal, Benhur Ekka, Agriculture Secretary Surendra Mohan, and other senior officials
