Imphal, Manipur: Women from the Meitei and Naga communities staged a joint protest demanding justice for six Naga civilians who were killed after allegedly being abducted during the ethnic unrest in the state.
According to reports, the six victims were among 18 people, including members of a single family, who were allegedly kidnapped on May 13 after being detained by residents of Leilon Vaiphei village and reportedly handed over to armed militants.
While 12 women were later released, the six men remained missing until their decomposed and mutilated bodies were recovered on June 10. Their mortal remains are still being kept at the JNIMS mortuary.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage across Manipur. Since the recovery of the bodies, several Naga and Meitei organisations have organized protests, candlelight vigils, rallies, and public demonstrations across different parts of the state, demanding accountability, justice for the victims, and stronger measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
