New Delhi: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the Central Government

after the Ministry of Home Affairs authorized the Delhi Police Commissioner to exercise detention powers under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980 for three months from July 19.

Reacting to the decision, Owaisi questioned how protests at Jantar Mantar could be considered a threat to national security. He said that many young people protesting were demanding their rights after their futures had been affected, and alleged that the government was wrongly treating them as national security threats.

He also questioned the government’s approach, saying that while it talks about setting up a special court, it is simultaneously allowing preventive detention under the NSA for up to 12 months without disclosing the grounds for detention. Owaisi accused the government of mishandling the situation and said it must take responsibility
