Hyderabad: Indiramma housing beneficiaries in Telangana are facing severe difficulties in receiving their house construction bills, with thousands reportedly caught in eligibility-related complications.
Several cab drivers and mini-van operators who applied for houses after being identified as eligible are now facing problems at the bill-payment stage. Although they were considered eligible when they applied, they are reportedly being treated as ineligible because they own or operate four-wheelers.
According to the beneficiaries, they purchased or operated vehicles only to earn a livelihood. However, the presence of a four-wheeler in their name is being cited as a reason for withholding their housing payments. Even beneficiaries who have sold their vehicles or transferred them to other people’s names reportedly continue to face difficulties.
Some beneficiaries have also submitted affidavits explaining their circumstances, but say they have not received any relief. Nearly 20,000 beneficiaries are reportedly facing similar problems.
The state government is reportedly concerned that if it pays the pending amount from its own funds and the Centre later releases its share, it could result in a situation of double payment to beneficiaries. As a result, thousands of families who have completed their houses are waiting for their final instalments
Beneficiaries are urging the state and Central governments to resolve the eligibility and funding issues at the earliest and release the pending bills.
