Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, addressing the people on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day at Golconda Fort, said the state government had laid strong foundations for the reconstruction of Telangana over the past 32 months and would accelerate efforts to build a prosperous and developed Telangana.
After hoisting the national flag at Golconda Fort, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s welfare, development and investment initiatives. He said the achievements of the government were possible because of the participation and cooperation of the people, employees and officials.
Reddy said Telangana’s per-capita income reached Rs 4,18,931 in 2025-26, according to the latest RBI data, which he said was nearly 91 per cent higher than the national per-capita income. He described the growth as evidence of the strength of the state’s economy and said the government’s broader vision was to take Telangana to a higher level through the Telangana Rising-2047 initiative.
The Chief Minister said the government viewed welfare not merely in terms of expenditure but as a responsibility towards the poor, with a focus on dignity, health and quality of life.
He said the government had accorded high priority to farmers and agriculture, claiming that Telangana had surpassed Punjab in paddy cultivation area and production. He also reiterated that the government would continue efforts to secure Telangana’s rightful share of Krishna and Godavari river waters and complete pending irrigation projects from Thummadihatti to Palamuru.
Reddy said the government aimed to make one crore women in Telangana financially empowered. He described the supply of fine-quality rice through the public distribution system as a major welfare initiative aimed at improving nutrition and ensuring dignity for beneficiaries.
According to the Chief Minister, more than 93 lakh families, covering nearly 3.38 crore people, had been brought under the public distribution system. More than 15 lakh new ration cards had been issued, while the distribution of smart ration cards was being launched across the state.
He said the government had initiated construction of 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses in the first phase and was providing social security pensions to around 43 lakh elderly persons, widows, persons with disabilities and handloom workers.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the revision of minimum wages after a 12-year gap, benefiting around 1.11 crore workers, and said Telangana had introduced a welfare law for gig workers that could serve as a model for the country.
On education, Reddy said government reforms were producing visible results, with Telangana improving from 28th to 18th position in the Performance Grading Index released by the Union government.
Employment generation was described as a key priority. The Chief Minister said more than 72,000 government appointments had been completed so far, including recruitments through Group-I, Group-II, Group-III, Group-IV and Mega DSC processes. He said the government was completing examinations, results and selection processes instead of stopping after issuing notifications.
In the healthcare sector, Reddy said construction of a new 2,000-bed Osmania General Hospital in Goshamahal had been taken up. Super-speciality hospitals were also being developed in Warangal, Sanathnagar, Alwal and LB Nagar. He said nine new government medical colleges had been started, new buildings were being constructed for eight medical colleges, and 16 nursing colleges and 28 paramedical colleges had been made available.
The Chief Minister said the government was taking stringent action against drugs and food adulteration and was establishing the TG Safe system to bring food safety and drug-control mechanisms under one umbrella, supported by legal, laboratory and enforcement divisions.
Reddy credited government employees and officials with playing a crucial role in implementing welfare schemes, increasing government revenue, attracting investments and expanding public services.He announced that Prajavani would be launched at all MPDO offices across Telangana from August 17, with the programme to be conducted every Monday to address people’s grievances at the mandal level. An online Prajavani portal would also be introduced to enable citizens to submit petitions from anywhere.
On investment and industrial development, the Chief Minister said Telangana was competing not merely with other Indian states but with the world. He pointed to the state’s performance in the Business Reforms Action Plan, where Telangana had emerged as a top achiever in areas including business entry, construction permit enablers, the service sector and land administration.
Reddy said the Telangana Rising Global Summit would be held again this year to showcase investment opportunities in the state to the world.Highlighting the IT sector, he said Telangana’s IT exports had reached Rs 3.97 lakh crore in 2025-26, while direct IT employment had increased to 12.14 lakh. Hyderabad now hosts more than 355 global capability centres, with 40 new centres arriving in 2026, according to the Chief Minister.He also said Telangana was emerging as one of India’s fastest-growing destinations for data centres, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Amazon had announced an additional investment of $7 billion in Telangana, while large hyperscale and AI-ready cloud infrastructure campuses were being developed in the Bharat Future City and Chandanvelly areas.
Reddy said Bharat Future City and the Musi River rejuvenation project would transform Hyderabad’s image. He assured farmers who had given land for the Future City project that the government would support them and said people living along the Musi river basin would not be allowed to suffer loss or hardship.
Concluding his Independence Day address, the Chief Minister said the government would continue to pursue both welfare and development and called for the continued support and blessings of the people to achieve greater progress and establish Telangana as a model for the country.
