Mallikarjun Kharge Urges Centre to Extend Aid to Nepal Flood Victims
Bengaluru, August 27, 2026: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has urged the Centre to extend all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal after devastating flash floods hit the neighbouring country.
Kharge expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and the scale of destruction. He also called for swift action to locate Indian nationals reported missing in the disaster.
The Congress chief said India must stand with Nepal during the crisis. He stressed the need for support to families affected by the floods.
The disaster struck parts of Nepal near the Tibet border. Rescue teams are continuing search operations amid difficult conditions.
Several Indian nationals are among those reported missing. Latest reports indicate that hundreds of Indians were still unaccounted for, although some people have since been located or rescued.
Kharge’s appeal comes as India has already stepped up its relief response. The country has sent disaster-relief supplies to Nepal, including shelters, medicines, blankets and other essential materials.
India also dispatched a second aircraft carrying 37.5 tonnes of humanitarian aid, medicines and food supplies on Thursday. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India remains in close contact with Nepalese authorities.

Kharge has particularly highlighted the plight of Indian tourists and pilgrims caught in the disaster.
He urged the government to make every possible effort to trace those missing. He also called for assistance to families waiting for information about their relatives.
The flash floods have caused extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Rescue operations remain underway as authorities assess the full extent of the disaster.
The Congress president said the party stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal during this difficult period.
