Disha Salian Death Case: ‘Truth Will Win,’ Says Father Satish Salian After Bombay HC Orders CBI Probe
Mumbai: Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, has welcomed the Bombay High Court’s decision to hand over the investigation into his daughter’s death to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“Truth will win,” Satish Salian said after the court ordered a fresh CBI investigation into the death of the former celebrity manager.
The Bombay High Court passed the order on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The decision came on a petition filed by Satish Salian seeking an independent investigation into his daughter’s death.
Disha Salian, who had worked as a celebrity manager, died on June 8, 2020. She fell from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area.
Mumbai Police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case. The police inquiry had subsequently treated the death as a suicide.
Bombay HC Directs CBI to Register FIR
A division bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Bhonsale directed the CBI to register an FIR based on Satish Salian’s complaint.
The court also directed the agency to record his statement. It asked the CBI to appoint a senior and experienced officer to conduct the investigation.
Mumbai Police has been ordered to hand over all case papers and relevant material to the CBI forthwith.
The court said the investigation should examine all aspects surrounding Disha Salian’s death.
If the CBI finds evidence of a cognisable offence, it must proceed according to law. If no offence is established, the agency will have to submit an appropriate closure report before the competent court.
Satish Salian Had Sought FIR Against Aaditya Thackeray
Satish Salian had approached the High Court seeking a CBI probe into his daughter’s death.
He also sought registration of an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray. His petition alleged foul play in the circumstances surrounding Disha’s death.
The allegations have been denied by those opposing the petition. Aaditya Thackeray’s lawyer argued before the court that the proceedings were politically motivated.
Importantly, the High Court has not held Aaditya Thackeray or any other person guilty.
The court specifically clarified that nobody should be treated as an accused unless investigators find sufficient material to establish reasonable suspicion against that person.
Court Questions Earlier Investigation
The High Court had raised concerns over the manner in which the earlier inquiry was conducted.
The court questioned the prolonged reliance on an Accidental Death Report instead of registering an FIR after allegations of foul play were raised.
The bench also questioned whether authorities could continue an extended inquiry under the provisions governing accidental deaths without formally registering an offence.
The Maharashtra government and Mumbai Police maintained that the investigation had not found evidence to prosecute anyone for murder or sexual assault.
The CBI probe will now examine the allegations and evidence independently.
Disha Salian Death Case: What Happens Next?
The CBI will take over the relevant case records from Mumbai Police.
A senior investigating officer is expected to record Satish Salian’s statement and examine the material collected during the earlier inquiry.
The agency will then determine whether the evidence supports prosecution or whether the case should be closed.
The High Court has also allowed Satish Salian to challenge an eventual closure report through a protest petition.
The case has remained in the public spotlight since Disha Salian’s death in 2020. Her death occurred days before actor Sushant Singh Rajput, with whom she had previously worked, died in Mumbai.
The fresh CBI investigation is now expected to bring renewed scrutiny to the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian’s death.
