Delhi Police Assures Action Against Swatantra Bhardwaj After Jantar Mantar Assault Row

New Delhi: Delhi Police has assured the delegation of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) that stronger charges will be added to the FIR concerning the alleged assault on Sanjay Azad.

The assurance came during a protest at the Parliament Street Police Station on Friday.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das led the delegation seeking action against self-styled Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj.

According to Das, an Additional DCP assured the delegation that relevant provisions would be added to the existing FIR.

These include an attempt-to-murder charge, provisions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Section 308 and Section 351.

Das also said police assured them that Bhardwaj would be arrested within 72 hours.

CJP Demands Action Against Swatantra Bhardwaj

CJP supporters gathered outside the Parliament Street police station in Delhi.

The protest followed allegations concerning an incident during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

Sanjay Azad, the father of student protester Nishu Azad, was allegedly assaulted during the protest.

The controversy intensified after a video featuring Bhardwaj circulated widely online.

In the video, he purportedly spoke about the alleged assault and his subsequent interaction with authorities.

Bhardwaj has since disputed the interpretation of his remarks. He reportedly said his comments were made jokingly and described the incident as self-defence.

Police Had Earlier Disputed Injury Claims

The case has also drawn attention over conflicting accounts about Sanjay Azad’s injuries.

Delhi Police previously said Azad suffered a simple head injury during a scuffle.

Police rejected claims that he had suffered a skull fracture, describing such claims as misinformation.

The latest assurance from police follows continued demands from CJP members for stronger legal action.

The delegation also sought action under the SC/ST Act and provisions relating to criminal intimidation.

Arrest Assured Within 72 Hours

CJP representatives said the police assured them that Swatantra Bhardwaj would be arrested within 72 hours.

The development came after the group marched to Parliament Street Police Station.

The protest was led by Saurav Das and CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka.

Azad Samaj Party chief and MP Chandra Shekhar Azad also joined the delegation, according to reports.

The police action and any additional charges will now be closely watched as the investigation progresses.
