*Chhattisgarh, September 15:* Maoists launched an assault on a police camp in Puvarti, Chhattisgarh, late Friday night, firing approximately 20 rounds at security forces, officials reported. According to authorities, the Maoists, armed with rocket launchers, infiltrated the area under the cover of darkness and began firing at the camp. The security forces, caught off guard, were unable to respond immediately due to the nightfall, prompting the Maoists to retreat into the dense forest.Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the initial attack, said the police. On Saturday, a joint operation involving the Bastar Battalion and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was launched to track down the Maoists in the forested region. During the operation, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the death of one Maoist rebel. A significant cache of weapons and equipment was recovered from the site.Officials have confirmed that a search operation is ongoing in the area to ensure the safety of the region and apprehend any remaining Maoist insurgents.
