Toshiba Opens New Manufacturing Units in Rudraram with ₹562 Crore Investment, Generating Jobs

In a significant boost for local industry, Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt Ltd has unveiled new manufacturing units at its Rudraram facility in Medak district. Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu inaugurated the state-of-the-art facilities, backed by an ambitious ₹562 crore investment spread over three years.

What’s Being Built

  • The announcement includes a CRGO core processing center with a capacity to handle 12,000 tonnes of steel annually.
  • It also welcomes a new surge arrester production line designed to churn out 80,000 units per year.
  • In addition, the EHV power transformer plant expansion will lift draft capacity from 30,000 MVA to 42,000 MVA annually.

Employment & Economic Impact

This expansion is expected to generate over 250 direct jobs within the next three years. Tamil Nadu is poised to see stronger employment and skills development as Toshiba’s presence deepens.

Industries Minister Sridhar Babu emphasized that Telangana is fast emerging as a manufacturing powerhouse. The state’s industrial output is expected to cross ₹2.77 lakh crore for 2024–25, with nearly half contributed by manufacturing. Merchandise exports have already touched ₹1 lakh crore. The GSDP growth rate of 8.2% stands well above the national average.

TTDI’s Chairman and Managing Director, Hiroshi Furuta, echoed these sentiments, stating the investment aligns with Toshiba’s strategic thrust to bolster manufacturing in India and support local employment and skill enhancement.
