Telangana CM Revanth Reddy to Make Historic Visit to Osmania University on August 25

Hyderabad, Aug 22, 2025:

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will create history on *Monday, August 25, when he visits **Osmania University (OU), the nerve center of the Telangana statehood agitation. This will mark the *first official visit by a Chief Minister to OU since the formation of the separate Telangana State in 2014.

First CM Visit Since Formation of Telangana

Former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) had attended the Centenary celebrations of OU in 2017, but his visit was marred by strong protests from students. Opposition to his alleged plan to utilize portions of OU land for housing schemes forced him to cancel his scheduled address, leaving then-President Pranab Mukherjee as the sole speaker at the historic event.

Against that backdrop, Revanth Reddy’s visit becomes *symbolically significant, as he steps into the campus not only to address students but also to *unveil developmental projects aimed at strengthening higher education infrastructure.

Developmental Projects on Campus

During his visit, the CM will:

  • *Inaugurate a state-of-the-art Digital Library Reading Room, constructed at a cost of *₹10 crore.
  • Open a new hostel building for OU students.
  • Launch a financial assistance scheme to support students traveling abroad for academic exposure.
  • Announce the “CM Research Fellowship”, designed to encourage and fund advanced research across disciplines.

Students’ Response: A Divided House

The announcement has evoked mixed reactions on the OU campus. Congress-affiliated student groups are preparing to roll out a warm welcome, determined to make the event a success. On the other hand, BRS-affiliated student unions have voiced opposition, signaling political tensions ahead of the visit.

Despite the divide, several independent students expressed optimism. Research scholar Chanagani Dayakar said the student community “wholeheartedly welcomes the Chief Minister” as he has begun fulfilling his promise of issuing job notifications, a long-pending demand of OU aspirants.

Political and Symbolic Importance

Osmania University holds a *special place in Telangana’s political history. The campus was the epicenter of the **Telangana agitation (2009–2014), which ultimately led to the formation of the State. For many, a sitting CM addressing OU students in a developmental context represents a *shift from agitation to progress.

What to Expect on August 25

Heavy security arrangements are being put in place ahead of the CM’s arrival. The administration is expecting thousands of students to attend the event, which could shape political narratives in the run-up to the 2028 Assembly elections.
