Dating App Scam: Two Young Women Arrested for Defrauding 67-Year-Old

A 67-year-old man from Delhi’s Defence Colony allegedly lost ₹1.30 lakh after being targeted through a dating app by two young women.

According to police, the victim first came in contact with 26-year-old Jyotsna through a dating app. She later introduced him to her friend, 21-year-old Mansi. The two women reportedly met the man for dinner at a restaurant.

During the meeting, the women allegedly took his phone and transferred ₹1.30 lakh from his account to their own account through UPI before leaving the restaurant.

The victim later realised that he had been cheated and approached the cyber police. During the investigation, police traced the money and found that the suspects were attempting to withdraw it. The two women were identified while submitting the required KYC documents to the bank and were subsequently arrested.

During questioning, police allegedly found that the accused had created fake identities on a dating app and were using them to target victims. Investigators also suspect that, in some cases, other women were sent to meet victims instead of the women operating the fake profil

Police have advised people to remain cautious while interacting with strangers on dating apps and to avoid sharing phones, banking details or financial information with unknown individuals.
