Delhi High Court Bars Unauthorized Use of Aishwarya Rai’s Name, Image & Voice in Landmark Ruling

New Delhi, September13, 2025:

In a significant judgement, the Delhi High Court has ruled in favour of Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The court restrained others from using her name, image, voice, or likeness without her approval. The decision comes amid growing misuse of celebrity identity in digital media and AI content.

Aishwarya had filed a petition claiming unknown individuals used her photos and voice to generate artificial content. Some of these were sexual or suggestive. She said these materials were created without her consent.

Justice Tejas Karia granted interim relief. The court ordered offending platforms to take down infringing URLs within 72 hours. It also mandated removal of content involving AI-morphing, voice misuse, or fake endorsements.

Court emphasised that misuse harms not only reputation and finances, but also dignity and goodwill. It said unauthorized exploitation of personality traits amounts to violation of privacy and the right to live with dignity.

Legal experts say this ruling strengthens India’s right of publicity. They believe it will help common people too whose images or names are exploited online. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 15, 2026.
