In a shocking case of digital blackmail, the Inavolu Police have arrested two individuals for publishing false news articles against local Tahsildar Vikram Kumar and attempting to extort money from him.
According to police reports, the accused—Damera Ravinder and *Damera Rajender, associated with the online news portal *Jananirnayam—allegedly fabricated news stories targeting the Tahsildar and demanded ₹2 lakh to stop publishing defamatory content.
The FIR (130/2025) was registered following a formal complaint lodged by the Tahsildar, who claimed that the false reports were not backed by any evidence and were clearly aimed at character assassination and financial extortion.
Accused Sent to Remand After Investigation
After a brief investigation, the police confirmed that the online platform had published baseless accusations under the guise of journalism. The accused were taken into custody and produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
The case has sparked concern over misuse of online media platforms for blackmail and harassment of public officials.
Police Urge Officials and Public to Stay Vigilant
Inavolu police urged other government officials and citizens to report any similar attempts of blackmail carried out in the name of digital journalism. Authorities emphasized that freedom of press must not be misused to threaten or manipulate public servants for financial gain.
