Hyderabad: Acting on a surge in citizen complaints, the Hyderabad Traffic Police has launched a special enforcement drive against vehicles using fake, tampered, or unauthorized registration number plates across the city.
During the past week, police registered six criminal cases against individuals found using fraudulent registration plates to conceal vehicle identities, evade traffic enforcement, and violate the Motor Vehicles Act. Several vehicles involved in these offences have also been seized.
The cases were registered under the jurisdictions of Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begumbazar, Abids, and Kachiguda Police Stations as part of the ongoing citywide operation.
The Traffic Police reiterated that only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally valid. Custom-designed plates, altered digits, missing characters, decorative fonts, and temporary stickers are illegal and attract strict legal action
Issuing a Zero Tolerance warning, the department said anyone found using fake or manipulated registration plates will face criminal prosecution and immediate seizure of the vehicle.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), D. Joel Davis, IPS, urged all vehicle owners to comply with prescribed number plate norms and traffic regulations, adding that such enforcement drives will continue across Hyderabad to enhance public safety, ensure lawful road usage, and strengthen crime prevention.
