HYDRAA Launches Demolition Drive at Key Locations to Clear Illegal Encroachments

*Hyderabad, September 8, 2024* – The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has intensified its campaign against illegal encroachments, launching a series of demolitions across key locations in Hyderabad and surrounding districts. The operations target unauthorized structures built within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of lakes and ponds, as part of HYDRAA’s efforts to preserve water bodies.The demolition drive, which commenced on Sunday, focused on three areas: Madhapur, Dundigal, and Ameenpur.In Madhapur, HYDRAA officials began dismantling large sheds and buildings constructed within the FTL of Sunnam Cheruvu, a 26-acre pond. Encroachments in survey numbers 12, 13, 14, and 16 were cleared, targeting businesses set up by squatters. The demolition, carried out with the support of local authorities, took place amid heavy security, with municipal and revenue officials ensuring the process proceeded without disruption.In Dundigal, the crackdown continued on illegal villas built around Mallampet’s Katwa Lake. A major demolition was conducted at a villa belonging to Lakshmi Srinivasa Constructions, which violated lake zone regulations. The operation, conducted early Sunday morning, was supervised by a significant police force to maintain order and prevent resistance from locals.Meanwhile, in Ameenpur, HYDRAA launched another set of demolitions targeting illegal structures in HMT Colony and Vaninagar, located within the Ameenpur Municipality in Sangareddy District. Working alongside revenue and municipal officials, HYDRAA removed encroachments that had occupied pond and lake lands, reclaiming crucial areas for environmental conservation.The demolition drive was initiated following a series of complaints from local residents and environmental activists concerned about the impact of illegal constructions on the region’s water bodies. HYDRAA has vowed to continue its crackdown on encroachments to protect Hyderabad’s lakes, ponds, and wetlands.
