Khammam Businessman, SI Face ₹1 Crore Defamation Suit Over Land Dispute

Khammam: August 11, 2025:

In a major legal development, a ₹1 crore civil defamation suit and a separate criminal defamation case have been filed in Khammam against Sub-Inspector Omkar Yadav and granite trader Om Narayan Khandelwal. The plaintiffs allege that false criminal charges and prolonged harassment caused severe mental distress, financial loss, and irreparable damage to their reputation.

The Land Dispute That Sparked the Conflict

According to court records, before 2006, 2.33 acres in Tirumalayapalem village were gifted by Rangayya to his grandson, M. Shravan Kumar. An application was made to the local Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) for a land title passbook in Shravan’s name.

However, prominent Khammam-based granite businessman Om Narayan Khandelwal, in collusion with tenant farmer Kompati Venkateswarlu, allegedly manipulated records and obtained the passbook illegally. The victims approached the Khammam Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) and filed a declaration suit in court seeking cancellation of the fraudulent passbook.

The local RDO and subsequent court rulings declared the passbook invalid and ordered the land to be registered in Shravan’s name. Appeals filed by the accused in the district court, High Court, and even the Supreme Court were all dismissed, affirming the lower court’s decision.

Years of Harassment and Denied Opportunities

Despite these legal victories, the plaintiffs allege that SI Omkar Yadav later filed false criminal charges against Shravan Kumar and his father, Venkateswarlu, preventing Shravan from going abroad for higher studies and blocking employment opportunities. They claim this caused over a decade of mental and financial hardship, alongside public humiliation.

Eventually, even the criminal case against them was dismissed. Now, citing the loss of dignity and prolonged suffering, the victims have taken the matter back to court—this time seeking damages for defamation.

The civil suit is being heard in the Khammam District Court, while the criminal defamation case is before the Principal Judicial First Class Magistrate (JFCM) Court. The plaintiffs are represented by advocates Kilaru Lakshmi Narasimha Rao and Gollapudi Rama Rao.
