Metro Rail Boost for Andhra Pradesh: ₹21,616 Crore Projects Cleared for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada

In a major push to urban infrastructure, the Andhra Pradesh government has finalized funding plans for the *Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Metro Rail Projects, with a combined investment of **₹21,616 crore. The state will contribute its share in a *50:50 partnership with the Central Government, marking a critical step forward for the long-awaited metro expansion in the state.

According to official sources, the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project will receive ₹4,101 crore from the state’s share, sourced from the *Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). Similarly, the *Vijayawada Metro will be backed by ₹3,497 crore through the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).

Tender Invitations Scheduled for Tomorrow

The state government has announced that tenders will be invited tomorrow (July 25) for both metro projects. The Visakhapatnam Metro is estimated at a project cost of *₹11,498 crore, while the *Vijayawada Metro is expected to be developed at ₹10,118 crore. Combined, the two projects aim to transform the public transport landscape of coastal and central Andhra Pradesh.

These metro corridors are being developed under the 50:50 cost-sharing model between the Union and State Governments, a model widely implemented across various metro rail projects in India.
