Owaisi Slams BJP Over NCERT Changes, Says Muslims Not Responsible for Partition

Hyderabad, Telangana (September 14):

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticised the BJP government for altering the NCERT syllabus and attempting to portray Muslims as responsible for India’s partition.

Addressing a gathering in Hyderabad, Owaisi questioned the narrative being pushed through school textbooks. “This BJP has changed the NCERT syllabus and held Muslims responsible for the partition. We are not responsible for the partition,” he said.

“Savarkar, Mountbatten and Congress Were Responsible”

Owaisi argued that historical facts were being deliberately distorted. “Savarkar was the first to raise the slogan of partition. Mountbatten is responsible for the partition, and so is the Congress government of that time. How are we responsible?” he asked.

He further alleged that key details had been removed from textbooks. “You have also removed from NCERT the reason why Mahatma Gandhi was killed by Godse,” Owaisi added, claiming that history was being rewritten to suit a political agenda.

Wider Political Context

The remarks come amid an ongoing debate over changes in NCERT textbooks, with several opposition parties accusing the ruling BJP of rewriting history to fit its ideology. The removal of references to Gandhi’s assassination, partition narratives, and other events has drawn widespread criticism from academics, opposition leaders, and civil society groups.

Political observers believe Owaisi’s comments are aimed at mobilising minority communities ahead of upcoming elections, while also intensifying the larger political battle over how India’s history is taught to future generations.
