Vijayawada, July 22, 2025:
The ongoing liquor case involving YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Mithun Reddy has taken a new turn. The embattled parliamentarian has filed a petition seeking special amenities in jail, triggering legal scrutiny over prison protocols and VIP treatment.
On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Vijayawada held a hearing on Mithun Reddy’s petition. The court has now summoned the Rajahmundry Central Prison Superintendent to appear in person today, seeking a detailed explanation regarding the facilities being provided to the accused inside the prison premises.
The case has attracted attention due to growing concerns over alleged preferential treatment for high-profile inmates. Legal experts believe this could set a precedent on whether special privileges should be granted to politicians under judicial custody.
The court’s inquiry aims to establish whether any rules were violated or undue privileges extended to the MP. The Rajahmundry jail authorities are expected to submit a full report clarifying the nature of services and provisions currently available to Reddy.
This development comes at a time when public discourse is rife with debates on transparency and equality within the Indian prison system. If the jail officials fail to justify the facilities, further action could be initiated by the court.
More details will emerge after today’s hearing. The case continues to stir political and legal circles alike.
