New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to help secure Maharashtra’s approval for increasing the height of the proposed Tummidihatti Barrage on the Pranahita River from 148 metres to 150–152 metres.
During a meeting attended by State Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister said that a higher barrage would enable gravity-based water supply, significantly reducing electricity costs while ensuring adequate irrigation for the backward Adilabad region.
Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that a study by the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, found no significant increase in the submergence area between a 148-metre and a 152-metre barrage, with nearly half of the submergence remaining within the riverbed.
Several Telangana MPs, senior irrigation officials, and government representatives were present during the meeting.
