The Telangana government has decided to construct Indiramma houses on around 6.5 acres of prime Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) land near RTC Cross Roads in Hyderabad, close to Bus Bhavan.
The land was earlier used as Hyderabad-3 Depot. It is currently being used by the RTC as a yard for parking the chassis of new buses.
The RTC management has reportedly suggested that the government instead consider land at Musheerabad-1 Depot, where old buildings are located, for the construction of Indiramma houses. The corporation has also informed the government that the RTC Cross Roads site currently has newly constructed facilities
However, the government has reportedly not yet responded to the RTC’s request.
Experts point out that RTC properties were placed under the Ninth Schedule during the reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh, and argue that the ownership and division of these assets need to be resolved before the government can take over the land for other purposes.
The proposed use of the prime RTC land for Indiramma housing is therefore likely to raise questions over the legal status and ownership of the property.
